SCARIEST DIVERSION ON A WORK TRIP: Riding a runaway
horse in Mongolia.
FAVORITE PIECE OF ADVICE: Avoid riding runaway horses.
WORST PRESENTATION EXPERIENCE: Competing against
an extremely loud popcorn machine while presenting at a circus-themed employee gathering.
(Everything turned out great, and the popcorn
was pretty good too. Read success story #12.)
SECOND-WORST PRESENTATION EXPERIENCE: Competing against
300 clanking ice cream bowls during a luncheon presentation.
BIGGEST IRRATIONAL FEAR: Trying to present to a group
of spoon-clanking ice-cream eaters in a room full of popping popcorn makers while
riding a runaway horse.
MOST FRUSTRATING DIVERSION ON A WORK TRIP: Trying
to find a moose in Alaska. Despite visits to Juneau, Fairbanks, Anchorage, and outlying
areas -- and numerous suggestions from workshop participants on where I should go
for sightings -- I never did see one. Note to my Alaskan friends: Are you sure there
are moose in your fine state?
FAMILY: 1 wife, 2 daughters, 1 goldfish, 1 dog, and
1 hamster. (Click here to read about Pongo the hamster, who teamed up with
my daughters to a big lesson about emotional intelligence.)
ABOUT THE NAME: The origin of my family name (Terez)
remains a mystery, though information from a recently discovered distant cousin suggests
it may have come from a wayward French soldier who settled in southern Lithuania
in 1812 or 1813. Most of my ancestors are from Poland or Polish-speaking areas, and
as a family, we celebrate many Polish traditions.
LATEST PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT EFFORT: Learning how to
speak and write French. (E-mails from French-speaking people are greatly appreciated
-- but expect a grammatically challenged response!)
